It’s best to avoid Athens in the height of the summer. Purely because temperatures get very high which makes sightseeing rather uncomfortable. July and August are the hottest months, you can visit at this time if you are going on a beach holiday and can cope with the stifling heat.
The best time to visit is in May, June, September or October. Temperatures are much more comfortable during these months. Winters in Athens are quite mild, although you will still need to wrap up warm and the weather can be more unpredictable. The coldest month is January and the wettest month is December.
